Turngemeinde 1837 Hanau a. V. has been given a new building in the form of a modern three-field sports hall on the existing Jula-Hof sports complex in Hanau. This new centre for sport and leisure has created numerous opportunities to enrich the city’s sporting infrastructure. At the same time, the open-air and transport facilities were remodelled and redesigned.
Three-court sports hall
The hall has a spacious entrance area, which is emphasised by a new double-leaf gate. A terrace adjacent to the entrance invites you to linger. To the east of the hall, there is a newly created car park and a bicycle parking facility, which can be easily reached via an approximately 3.80 m wide footpath and cycle path. This path leads directly to the entrance of the hall, while its reddish epoxy resin coating with white lines is reminiscent of classic sports running tracks. The colour contrast to the other areas also creates more safety and clarity in its use.
Some of the existing fencing was replaced, adapted or repaired as part of the redesign. The Hanau – Friedberg railway line runs to the west of the site. Residential buildings border the sports facility to the north and east, a football pitch to the south and the Kinziga floodplain behind it.
Sports campus
As part of the comprehensive remodelling of the sports complex, existing structures such as the fire station access road to the tennis centre, the barbecue hut and the tennis centre were retained. Three new beach volleyball courts have now been installed in the south of the facility and the tennis courts have been resurfaced. In addition, the archery range has been moved to the north and a new synthetic surface has been installed on parts of the former running track, integrating long jump, triple jump and high jump facilities as well as an area for shot put, discus and javelin throwing. A new fin track for jogging frames the entire area.
The area surrounding the sports hall has also been upgraded: planting strips with low-maintenance planting provide privacy from the neighbouring bicycle parking facility, while 16 newly planted deciduous trees enrich the landscape. A secure fence completes the overall picture and ensures a clear demarcation between the different areas of use.
