Salzgitter

Client: City of Salzgitter
Cost: 590.000 Euro
Area: 2.000 sqm Bad, 600 sqm Lebensstedt
Service phases: Lph 1 – 9
Duration: 2022 – 2023

The “Small Climate-Friendly Forum” was implemented in the centres of Salzgitter-Bad and Salzgitter-Lebenstedt and thus adapted to the current challenges posed by climate change.

On a total area of 2,600 square metres, dying trees were replaced by new climate-resilient trees, fogging technology was installed to lower the ambient temperature and drinking water fountains were installed for refreshment in the hot summer months. Another special feature is the innovative solar benches, where you can charge your smartphone or use Wi-Fi. Planting areas and the round benches (flowerbed borders with seats) have been renovated and planted with insect-friendly perennials. The equipment (rubbish bins, bicycle stands, lighting, benches with arms and backrests) has been replaced.

This has created small, green oases to linger in, making the town centres of Lebenstedt and Bad more attractive and ensuring a better carbon footprint in the centres.

These objectives are being pursued through the measures:

– Climate protection through unsealing and planting resilient tree species

– Improvement of the urban climate

– Improving the quality of stay

– Creation of meeting places

The measure is part of the EU funding programme “Perspektive Innenstadt!” to combat the economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and revitalise city centres.
