The premise here is to increase urban density while retaining the airy atmosphere of the site’s open spaces. As a result, the site is divided into two sections, each with its own character.

In the south, a loosely structured block culminating at a high point clearly signals the town entrance. The commercial and office space located there, combined with publicly accessible facilities and residential units, creates a lively neighbourhood square that can accommodate diverse uses plus, in front, a skate park and dirt bike facility. These sculpturally modelled areas function as additional water retention areas during periods of heavy rainfall.

From here going northwards in the direction of the old town, a new area for recreation and strolling opens up in the former wasteland between Sommeracher Strasse and Dieselstrasse. The bordering streets consist of long buildings, which help towards creating a cross-section like an urban street. The new central swathe of green is thus effectively shielded from the two streets and experienced as airy and attractive variously scaled open space.

The concept focuses on providing differentiated landscaped structures suitable for the various residential areas, and closely weaving these in with the open spaces. The long stretch of green space in the centre gives the neighbourhood its characteristic image.  Additionally, playgrounds and sports fields suitable for all generations, and areas designated for urban gardening will also be integrated into the neighbourhood park.

Alongside this publicly accessible green connecting space, jointly used inner courtyards, and individually designed private open spaces in the form of terraces, loggias and roof gardens create differentiated open spaces and opportunities for various groups of people in the neighbourhood to make use of them.

This intensely landscaped green space is a characteristic feature of the new neighbourhood. Green facades and green roofs, as well as the use of indigenous, site-appropriate plants, all contribute to providing a diverse mosaic of small-scale habitats.
